PolitiFact<\/em><\/a><\/strong> claims, \u201cOur only agenda is to publish the truth\u201d. Yet the actual facts indicate quite the contrary. PolitiFact<\/em>\u2019s true agenda appears to be geared to protecting liberal politicians by downplaying (or ignoring) their corrupt words and deeds- while concurrently hammering conservatives for their statements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PolitiFact<\/em> accomplishes this largely through the biased application of its rating system, which includes categories of \u201cTrue\u201d, \u201cHalf True\u201d, \u201cHalf-False\u201d, \u201cFalse\u201d and \u201cPants on Fire\u201d. However, PolitiFact<\/em> frequently pulls another tool from its rating shed- no rating at all, which is a de facto \u201cTrue\u201d rating. It\u2019s not unusual for PolitiFact<\/em> to ignore statements that other fact-checking organizations label as false.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few recent examples of PolitiFact<\/em>\u2019s bias include its coverage of Joe Biden\u2019s unauthorized possession of classified materials. Rather than an examination of the Biden case, PolitiFact<\/em>\u2019s \u201cfact check\u201d took the form of a comparison of Donald Trump\u2019s and Joe Biden\u2019s possession of classified documents. Biden\u2019s case was excused as an \u201coops, I didn\u2019t know I had them\u201d faux pas; Trump was blasted for possession of classified materials and not cooperating with investigators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nowhere did PolitiFact<\/em> mention that it took approximately 60 days before Biden\u2019s possession of classified documents was made public. Nowhere did PolitiFact<\/em> note that revealing Biden\u2019s illegal possession of classified materials was conveniently delayed until well after the November 2022 mid-term elections. Nowhere was there mention of the fact that Trump had declassified a host of documents. In fact, Trump\u2019s case has absolutely no direct bearing on Biden\u2019s, but it is a useful tool to vilify Trump while making Biden\u2019s actions seem less illegal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PolitiFact<\/em> comparison of Trump and Biden both being private citizens and having possession of classified documents does surprisingly label both cases as violations of federal law. The report quotes Bradley Moss, a Washington, D.C., lawyer who works on national security cases as saying, \u201cBoth Mr. Trump and President Biden had documents with classification markings stored in unauthorized locations while they were private citizens. That is impermissible and a violation of federal law.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the \u201cfact check\u201d then goes on to paint Biden as an innocent (hapless would be more appropriate) bystander who was simply unaware that as a private citizen, he was illegally in possession of classified documents. Although \u201cignorance of the law\u201d is universally dismissed as justification for violating a law, PolitiFact<\/em> proffers the opinion that Biden should be excused for violating federal law because he was simply unaware that he illegally possessed classified documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additional evidence of PolitiFact<\/em>\u2019s efforts to portray Biden as innocent of violating federal law is an additional quote from Moss which states, \u201cThe Biden team and the Trump team approached this in completely different ways,\u201d Moss said. \u201cThe Biden team did what is supposed to be done, namely immediately notifying the government of the issue after locating the documents and returning them to government control. As far as we know from the media reporting, the Biden team has been cooperative with the inquiry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the rationale of PolitiFact<\/em> reporters to a logical conclusion, anyone committing a crime of any type should not be prosecuted they claim ignorance of the crime, and their attorneys are cooperative. However, PolitiFact<\/em>\u2019s position is undoubtedly that only a left-leaning politician should be able to successfully invoke the \u201cOops, I didn\u2019t know\u201d defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, Biden\u2019s legal team had no reason to delay bringing its findings to the government as they had to know public release of the information would be delayed until any potential political damage would be minimized or eliminated. With Democrats in control of the House, Senate and White House, there was no chance of the Biden team\u2019s secret being exposed to the public in a timely manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assuming that Biden was truly unaware that classified documents were illegally stored in a Washington, DC office and at his home in Delaware (that\u2019s not an unreasonable assumption considering Biden\u2019s lack of awareness of most things) it would appear that Biden and his team, and one or more government agencies are guilty of a cover-up, as they purposely kept the information under wraps until after the mid-term elections. Of course, PolitiFact<\/em> makes no mention of that aspect of the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apparently, PolitiFact<\/em> decided to use a comparison between Biden\u2019s and Trump\u2019s illegal possession of classified documents as a way to provide cover because the Biden case was too big to ignore- a tactic it frequently uses. An example of that tactic is demonstrated by The Washington Post<\/em>, of all publications. Like PolitiFact<\/em>, The Post<\/em> unquestionably leans to the left, but its fact checkers are not above awarding Biden and other Democrats three of four \u201cPinocchios\u201d when they come across false statements. There are numerous incidents of PolitiFact ignoring a Biden statement that earned 4 Pinocchios from The Post<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On May 30, 2022, a Biden opinion piece published by The Wall Street Journal<\/em> contained the statement, \u201cA dozen CEOs of America\u2019s largest utility companies told me earlier this year that my plan would reduce the average family\u2019s annual utility bills by $500 and accelerate our transition from energy produced by autocrats.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Post<\/a> awarded this statement four Pinocchios,\u00a0the equivalent of PolitiFact\u2019s \u201cPants on Fire\u201d rating. Yet not a word from PolitiFact.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

PolitiFact<\/em> is obviously not the only publication or web site with a leftist bias. However, it is unique in its continual claims to be a seeker and dispenser of truth. And that makes it a unique threat to our republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
